2026 Defender of the Aquifer Award — Call for Nominations

We’re excited to announce that nominations for the 2026 Defender of the Aquifer Award are now open!

This annual award honors individuals and organizations whose exceptional effort, leadership, and vision have advanced the protection and stewardship of the Spokane Valley–Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer – our region’s sole source of drinking water. From innovative projects to sustained advocacy and community engagement, this award celebrates those whose work safeguards our precious groundwater resource for current and future generations.

Who Can Be Nominated

We welcome nominations for people and groups who are making a meaningful impact on aquifer protection, including but not limited to:

  • Local water utilities and purveyors
  • Nonprofit and community organizations
  • Educators and students
  • Businesses with sustainable water practices
  • Citizen advocates and volunteers
  • Public agencies and policymakers
    Anyone whose work reflects leadership, collaboration, innovation, or service in aquifer protection is encouraged to apply.

How to Nominate

To submit a nomination, complete the 2026 Defender of the Aquifer Award nomination form and tell us how your nominee’s contributions protect, conserve, or educate about the aquifer. Be sure to include specific examples of impact and why your nominee deserves recognition.

Deadline

Nominations will be accepted through February 27, 2026. Winners will be selected by the award committee and honored at the annual H2O breakfast on March 31, 2026.
