JOB SUMMARY

The Field Technician 1, under the supervision of the Operations Manager, is to operate, repair and maintain the district’s water distribution system, facilities and all associated equipment. Additional duties also include assisting with customer relations, participating with the on-call shifts, keeping the Cross Connection Control program up to date, maintaining the Small Works Roster and other job related duties as assigned.

FIELD TECHNICIAN 1 DUTIES

Knowledge and practice of safety policies and procedures is required along with participation in safety meetings and training.  Learn and understand District policies, procedures, guidelines, standards and requirements.  Must be able to trouble shoot and repair District facilities and related items. Must have the ability to compose letters, maintain computer data for the CCC program and the ability to read maps and blue prints.  Have general knowledge in construction and excavation operations.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work may be performed in adverse weather conditions around facilities and various residential neighborhoods with hazards from traffic and or construction equipment. Work involves risk from mechanical, electrical and heavy equipment as well as hazardous chemicals. When participating in on-call shifts, the routine work involves facilities examinations, emergency locates and is subject to 24-hour emergency call outs.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

Must have the ability to operate various hand tools and power tools.    This includes lawn care and snow removal equipment.  Basic understanding of electricity, pumps, motors and small engines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must have the ability to operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner. Must have the ability to lift up to 75 pounds and have the stamina to walk for long periods of time.  Must have a valid Washington State Drivers License and driving record acceptable to the District and be insurable. A high-school diploma or G.E.D. and one year of experience in water systems or a related field is required; however, a combination of experience and/or training may be substituted.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

This person must pass a complete physical and substance examination as well as a Washington State Patrol and FBI background check. Have the ability to obtain a Water Distribution Specialist and a Cross Control Specialist certification from the State of Washington. Current First Aid and CPR Training.
