  • Committee Reports
    • ProActive Business – Final report by Ms. Camille Martin, Department of Ecology, Toxics Reduction Specialist
    • Potential Contaminant Source Inventory – pilot test @ Irvin begun
    • Household Contaminant Disposal – gathering residential addresses w/in 500’ of wellheads
    • Education & Awareness – RFPs for Children’s Theatre, 2002 Survey, and  Aqua Duck development; truck decals, bumper stickers, next radio spots, road signs

 

  • Program Leader Report – Julia McHugh

1) Thanks to Lee Mellish, who appeared on KXLY Newsmaker show w/Bud Nameck on January 8th, providing a  summary of 2001 activities and a heads-up for 2002 aquifer news and information.

2) January 17th presentation to County Master Gardeners in training to become Stewardship Gardeners – who potentially will go on to educate hundreds in the Spokane area about gardening activities and how they tie in with the Aquifer and the need for groundwater protection.

3) Friends of the Aquifer – Idaho Dept. of Water Resources rules Washington state group may present concerns at Feb 11th hearing on two permit applications for power plants in North Idaho.  Two plants are seeking combined use of 17 million gpd aquifer water.  (Their fact sheet on this issue attached)

4) From the Groundwater Foundation ‘Recharge Report’, the US EPA announced the new arsenic standard, effective in 2006, will be 10 ppb.  EPA’s press release and a fact sheet on the new standard are available at https://www.epa.gov/safewater/arsenic.html

5) New 2002 District Roster distributed @ meeting and by mail to those not attending
